Gary's expertise covers the chemical, pharmaceutical and mechanical fields. He acts for a diverse range of companies across these technologies. He is also Head of the HGF Chemistry Team.


In particular, Gary has advised clients on numerous technologies including: catalysis; chemical synthesis; cosmetics; fabrics; fuel cells; medical devices; oil and gas technology; optics; nanotechnology; polymer materials; renewables; semiconductors and solar cells.
Gary provides commercially focussed advice to a range of organisations. 


Gary is personally mentioned and recommended in leading legal directories such as the Legal 500, Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) and Managing Intellectual Property (MIP). Gary is also one of the limited number of UK patent professionals recommended in the International Guide to the World’s Patent Practitioners IAM 1000 which lists the world's top 1000 patent practitioners. He has been personally listed in the IAM 1000 from 2014-2016 and been an MIP Star from 2014-2016.

Gary graduated from the University of Glasgow with a First Class Honours degree and Doctorate in Chemistry. He was also awarded the Joseph Black Medal in Chemistry. Gary also studied Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London.

 

He joined HGF as a partner in 2007 to open and manage the firm’s first Scottish office. During this time he has sat on the firm’s Strategy Group and International Review Committee.
